The Merits of the Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
May 15, 2009 on 7:20 am | In Miscellaneous | No Comments
I am a sandwich person. Just ask my friends or family. Whenever I go to a restaurant, I almost always order a sandwich. There’s just something I really like about having my favorite filling in between two slices of bread. It’s finger food. It’s casual. It’s comfortable. But there’s nothing more comfortable to me than a good old fashioned peanut butter and jelly.
Whether it’s smooth or chunky, the classic PB&J is the best comfort food there is. The peanut and grape tastes compliment themselves perfectly and the white bread adds a texture that is wonderfully different from the savory and sweet contents of the sandwich. It’s so easy to make, and conveniently portable. But the PB&J is more than that. It’s a comforting reminder of our childhood.
What person hasn’t grown up eating PB&Js as a kid and getting the jelly and peanut butter all over their fingers and face? How many times did we have our friends over for lunch, and mom would make us PB&J sandwiches? How many lunches did we take to school that were PB&J, and when we opened our lunchbox we were so happy at its contents? It’s a kid staple, a right of passage. It reminds us of simpler times, of when we could play all day without a care, of when we were taken care of and everything of major importance was handled by our parents. Who doesn’t want to remember that, to feel that way again?
Such good memories…all because of a simple sandwich.

The Life of the Artist
March 7, 2009 on 4:03 am | In Blog | No CommentsThe life of the artist is never easy. We’re misunderstood. We’re put into boxes. We’re put to work as soon as we’re found out. We’re considered worldly. We’re considered weird. We’re not of this planet.
Why should we be surprised? After all, we’re only visitors on Earth. Ok, so we’re more sensitive, more emotional, more worried about what people think of us, more apt to mood swings, more critical of ourselves than of other people, although we’ll be quick to point out the places where other people’s art “just doesn’t quite work” or “doesn’t come across”. We’re above it all yet beneath what our own perception is of what art truly needs to be.
The artist is a butterfly. That butterfly goes from flower to flower, pollinating different venues and outlets with their creative juices. Once in awhile, it will even light upon the hand of a leader of one of these outlets. If that leader is smart, they will keep their hand extended and open, giving the butterfly freedom to come and go as it pleases, excreting its creative juices as much or as little as it sees fit. Once the leader closes their hand and holds on too tightly, they will crush the butterfly.
Geek Alert! – “The Hunt for Gollum”
February 18, 2009 on 8:17 pm | In Miscellaneous, Videos | No CommentsI have seen quite a few “fan movies” in the past. Usually they end up being a “nice try” effort by geeks who just want to play their favorite role – and aren’t very good at it.
However I believe there is one coming that will be worth the title “Fan Film” and its called:
“The Hunt for Gollum”
What sets this apart? First and foremost, the creator and director is not acting – they actually got real actors. It is adapted from the LOTR Appendecies and not spun out of the head of a earnest but misguided geek who thinks they can write “the best episode ever”. Lastly, these guys actually know what they are doing. It’s a 40 minute film scheduled to be released, online only, on May 3rd. But don’t take my word for it. Continue reading and watch the darn good looking trailer.
Thunderbirds Hockey!
January 25, 2009 on 11:04 pm | In Latest Events, Photos, Videos | No CommentsSo the new Kent events center – the ShoWare center – opened this month and it is the new home for the Seattle Thunderbirds! Whoo Hoo!
We went to the game this past Saturday (Jan 24th) which was the good ol’ battle of I-5 against the Portland Winterhawks. It was a great game and the T-birds won 3-1!
The ShoWare center is a wonderful venue to see a game at. If you live in the area, make plans to go to a game!
There are two other pictures and a video of “Mascot Broom Hockey” after the break. Go T-birds!

December 2008 Snow!
December 21, 2008 on 3:31 pm | In Latest Events, Videos | No CommentsWow, what an out-of-the-ordinary snow storm have we gotten this past week. As I write this, it’s still going! It started snowing Thursday, the 18th and pretty much hasn’t stopped since. I’ve taken a bunch of pictures and have compiled some into the video below. Look for a new photo album with all the pictures sometime next week.
